CSA Shares are going fast!
Your Goshen Farmers Market CSA is growing! If you have not yet purchased your share for the season, the good news is you still have time to get it done. We are adding several new farmer/vendors this season and their additional produce is allowing us to increase the total number of CSA shares available this year. But don't wait too long! The market for organically produced, farm fresh fruits and vegetables grows each week as "healthy food/local food" makes sense to more and more Goshen area residents.

Full CSA Shares are available for $400 (that's twenty-two 1/4 bushel baskets of fresh-from-the-field local produce!); half shares (ten 1/4 bushel baskets) are offered at $200. As in the past, if you wish to contribute to our vendors' "Share the Bounty" local food charity, we encourage you to add $25 to your share price.

Saturday, July 4, 2008 -- 5:00 pm

Faith Mennonite "Market Basket" Fundraiser
Faith Mennonite Church reaches out to people in need with nutritious baskets of farm-fresh produce. They purchase CSA shares from the Market and then distribute baskets of food to those who need it most. This entertaining evening fundraiser features the music of Goshen's own highly acclaimed Les and Gwen Gustafson-Zook. Faith Mennonite is preparing a supper (served 5-7 pm) of garden salads and panini sandwiches. At 6:30 Les and Gwen, with a likely special appearance by their daughter, Sadie, will perform their special blend of religious and American traditional music that has endeared them to fans from coast to coast. More info on Les and Gwen's music . . .

Tickets are available at the "Books for Baskets" booth in the Goshen Farmers Market -- $8 for supper (kids 5 & under, free); donations will be accepted at the conceert.

Don't miss this wonderful event! Captivating entertainment for young and old alike, and a terrific opportunity to make a real difference right here in our own community.

(To date, our generous CSA members and producer/vendors at the Goshen Farmers Market, matching funds with Benton Mennonite Church, Faith Mennonite Church and MDC Goldenrod, have helped to make 154 baskets of wholesome, delicious, locally grown fruits and vegetables available for Goshen area residents who need assistance. Thank you, everyone, for remembering to care for your neighbors in such a practical and essential way!)

And a reminder . . . we gratefully accept tax-deductible gifts to "Share the Bounty" all year long.

CSP Community Forum at the Market

Paul Steury on WILD FOOD!
Education Coordinator of Goshen College's Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center and Community Sustainability Project president Paul Steury presents WILD FOOD! For 30 to 40 minutes, beginning "on the hour" (at 9,10,11 and 12 noon), Paul will entice your appetite and tease your brain with some astonishing, uncommon examples of uncultivated edibles straight from nature's wild plantation. Along the way you'll catch a little of this native son's vision for the CSP, and his heart for the greater Goshen community. You'll also be challenged by his passion for the natural environment and his desire to help build a sustainable, environmentally responsible community. Sign up early, and be one of the lucky 40 to go "one-on-one" with Paul.

Each Saturday four groups of just ten participants will explore issues vital to the well being of our community. Broadly, issues will include health and fitness, social justice, conservation, food & nutrition, environmental responsibility, sustainable agriculture, building a "local" economy, and other issues related to developing a truly sustainable community.

Sign up for the hour of your choice at the front desk during market hours. The forum is designed to encourage meaningful dialog, so group size is limited to just ten participants. Reservations are strongly recommended.

This is the innaugural session of the CSP Community Forum. The Forum is being underwritten by INterra Credit Union (formerly FBCU) and is sponsored by Goshen Health Systems/Healthy Generations. This is your community. This is your forum.

CSP Film Series
(At the Goshen Theater - 216 S. Main St. - Goshen, Indiana)

RENEWAL
" . . . the first feature-length documentary to capture the breadth and vitality of America's religious-environmental movement. In rural communities, suburbs and cities, people of faith are rolling up their sleeves in practical and far-reaching ways. The ninety-minute documentary is composed of eight separate stories designed especially for community screenings and discussion:

  • A Crime Against Creation - Evangelicals bear witness to mountaintop removal and the destruction of Appalachia
  • Going Green - GreenFaith helps congregations take the first steps to environmental action
  • Food for Faith - Muslim tradition and charity forge bonds between urban communities and sustainable farms
  • Ancient Roots - Teva Learning Center and Adamah bring environmental education together with Jewish tradition
  • Compassion in Action - Green Sangha, a Buddhist community, leads a campaign to save trees
  • Eco-Justice - The Holy Spirit inspires a battle against industrial contamination in small town Mississippi
  • Sacred Celebration - Catholics and Native Americans embrace religious ritual to protect land and water

RENEWAL was produced and directed by veteran filmmakers Marty Ostrow and Terry Kay Rockefeller, who’ve worked on NOVA, American Experience, Eyes on the Prize, and other PBS series. RENEWAL recently won the Best in Fest at the Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Festival."

The films are followed by a group discussion of the issues presented. These screenings are offered FREE OF CHARGE to the public! Donations (at the door) are appreciated to help underwrite costs. Join us each Second Friday of the month for the CSP Film Series!

Enjoy your Farmers Market each Tuesday from 3-7 . . . now through October!
